Decorative Wall Painting Techniques
Are your walls plain and sans glam? Do you long for a cozy, welcoming room? Consider interesting wall painting techniques, like sponging, ragging, stenciling or stamping? You actually do not need any kind of experience to do it yourself economically and make your room look grand with any of the following quick decorative wall painting methods.
Even before you could start painting, choose a color scheme for the walls. Have in mind, most of the painting methods use two shades of the same color for their designs. If the one you are choosing uses two shades as well, pick your base color darker than usual, as your top coat which is a lighter color will make your base coat light as well.
To sponge or rag a wall, paint the base color first and let it dry fully. Dip your sponge or rag in the top coat shade then and sponge or drag it across until you like the result. Repeat the same thing for the entire wall.
If you are chewing over a more define design decorative painting technique such as stenciling or stamping, you could probably give a wall paper effect bystamping or stenciling a simple design over your base coat. Also if you wish to go further with this and use stencils or stamps to create a faux brick or stone wall do the following. To start with, paint the color of your choice for the mortar between the bricks or stones. After it becomes dry, stamp or stencil your bricks or stones over the base coat. After the brick or stonework is dry, spatter a bit of the darker color over your faux art to give it depth and make it appear more realistic.Doing faux effects such as giving the look to your wall like they are made of plaster or suede makes the room unique from the others. Paint bases that automatically give a suede or textured effect to the walls are a shortcut that even artists use to create fun finishes.
