Safety First, Avoid Recalls
When you shop for toys for children, it is important to make sure that you know which toys are safe to purchase and which ones are not safe. Many toys in stores have been recalled but the stores continue to sell them. If you are not up to the minute with the recall list, then you could purchase some great looking toys that your children will love but they might have some harmful materials. You need to be careful when buying toddlers toys or toys for babies in particular because even a small amount of toxic material in toys can can be deadly for them.
It is sad that hazardous toys are still sold in stores all across the nation, despite a lot of laws that are put in place to protect children from hazardous toys. Toy safety is a major problem that parents worry about endlessly. While most of the toys on store shelves are considered safe, there continues to be various toys that are too dangerous for small children. As a result, parents and people taking care of kids need to remain vigilant in order to avoid toy-related deaths and injuries. With more information, the scope of unsafe toys has been widened to include previously thought of as safe toys such as those labeled as phthalate-free. It is true that even some products labeled phthalate-free contain the dangerous chemical.
Although manufacturers of toys should quickly recall products that are considered unsafe and make it available for parents the necessary information they need to allow them to purchase toys that are safe for their kids, some of them care more about their bottom lines. You might have heard of many toy recalls in the news but there are a lot more toy recalls that you might not have heard of. Therefore, parents do not know that they are unsafe to use or buy. The government agency charged with keeping toys safe called The Consumer Product Safety Commission have put out alerts and information on toy safety but there are still tons of manufacturers that are not doing anything and continue to sell toys laden with toxic substances. The Consumer Product Safety Commission cannot do much about existing toys that are already out on the shelves.
If you think you have a hazardous toy or any product that is unsafe, you need report the incident to the CPSC by calling a toll-free Consumer Hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270).
